Concurrent Validity of the Inertial Measurement Unit Vmaxpro in Vertical Jump Estimation

نویسندگان

چکیده

The aim of this study was to evaluate if the inertial measurement unit (IMU) Vmaxpro is a valid device estimate vertical jump height (VJH) when compared motion capture system (MoCAP). Thirteen highly trained female volleyball players participated in which consisted three sessions. After familiarization session, two sessions comprised warm-up followed by ten countermovement jumps, resting min between each attempt. Jump measured simultaneously using take-off velocity and MoCAP center-of-mass excursion. Results show significant differences devices (10.52 cm; p < 0.001; ES = 0.9), very strong Spearman’s correlation (rs 0.84: 0.001), weak concordance coefficient (CCC 0.22; ρ 0.861; Cb 0.26). Regression analysis reveals high correlations, systematic error (8.46 cm), nonproportional random (SEE 1.67 cm). Bland–Altman plots (10.6 cm) with 97.3 % data being within LoA. In conclusion, can be considered for estimation VJH, cheaper, portable, manageable alternative MoCAP. However, magnitude discourages its use where indistinguishable from are used unless corresponding specific fitting equation applied.

Inertial Measurement Unit Simulator

During the last few years microminiaturized inertial sensors were introduced in many applications. Their small size, low power consumption, rugged construction open doors to many areas of implementation. The main drawback of these sensors is the influence of different type of errors, leading to an unavoidable wrong position and orientation estimation. In the paper a simulator of Inertial Measur...

Walking speed estimation using a shank-mounted inertial measurement unit.

We studied the feasibility of estimating walking speed using a shank-mounted inertial measurement unit. Our approach took advantage of the inverted pendulum-like behavior of the stance leg during walking to identify a new method for dividing up walking into individual stride cycles and estimating the initial conditions for the direct integration of the accelerometer and gyroscope signals. To te...

Concurrent Validity of Accelerations Measured Using a Tri-Axial Inertial Measurement Unit while Walking on Firm, Compliant and Uneven Surfaces

Although accelerometers are extensively used for assessing gait, limited research has evaluated the concurrent validity of these devices on less predictable walking surfaces or the comparability of different methods used for gravitational acceleration compensation. This study evaluated the concurrent validity of trunk accelerations derived from a tri-axial inertial measurement unit while walkin...

Concurrent validity of the Gyko inertial sensor system for the assessment of vertical jump height in female sub-elite youth soccer players

BACKGROUND The aim of the present study was to verify concurrent validity of the Gyko inertial sensor system for the assessment of vertical jump height. METHODS Nineteen female sub-elite youth soccer players (mean age: 14.7 ± 0.6 years) performed three trials of countermovement (CMJ) and squat jumps (SJ), respectively. Maximal vertical jump height was simultaneously quantified with the Gyko s...

Inertial Measurement Unit Calibration Platform

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Avionics Engineering Center at Ohio University are developing an electromechanical system for the calibration of an inertial measurement unit (IMU) using global positioning system (GPS) antennas. The GPS antennas and IMU are mounted to a common platform to be oriented in the angular roll, pitch, and yaw motions. Vertical motion is also included to te...
